This beach, whose infrastructure began to be built a few years ago, was never able to open due to the low water level in the Odeleite Dam, where it is located, according to a report by Sul Informação.

However, now that the dam is almost one hundred percent full, the basic conditions are in place for the river beach to operate.

“We have already secured the hiring of lifeguards and we will install the floating platforms by the end of the month. We still do not have a definitive date for the opening, because the contractor has not yet completed the work”, explained Filomena Sintra.

Although the access points have already been installed, namely the staircase that leads to the beach, some work still needs to be completed, “such as the electricity connections”, which will allow a concession support establishment and other services to be put into operation.

As for the floating platforms, they had already been purchased by the Council more than two years ago and “were stored in a warehouse, waiting”, so all that is needed is to install them.

Regardless of whether or not the conditions are right for the support bar to operate, “we will have lifeguards on site anyway”, to ensure surveillance and safety.

The mayor of Castro Marim estimates that, “from mid-July”, it will be possible to inaugurate this new river beach.
