Three of the six parking lots to be made available under this partnership are "now available," namely Belenenses, Olivais Sul, and Infante D. Henrique, while the other three will remain "until the end of the month," specifically Carnide, Laranjeiras, and Xabregas, according to the city government.
The partnership involves the supermarket chain Lidl, as well as EMEL – the Lisbon Municipal Mobility and Parking Company – to provide 335 free nighttime parking spaces in store parking lots throughout the city.
"Residents will be able to use them free of charge between store closing time and 8:30 a.m. the following day, by signing up for this option at Lidl stores or on the EMEL website," the city council said in a statement.
This measure to increase parking availability for city residents will be publicly presented on Friday, in the presence of Lisbon Mayor Carlos Moedas (PSD), at the Lidl parking lot of the Os Belenenses Football Club on Avenida do Restelo.
In a statement, the city council said this is "a pioneering project" to utilise parking lots already built and used by commercial establishments, which were previously unused at night, and which are now available without the need for investment.
"Lidl is the first major supermarket chain to join this project," the city council noted.
In addition to this measure, since March 19, Lisbon City Council has been providing 3,500 overnight parking spaces in 36 EMEL and Telpark parking lots located in 14 of Lisbon's 24 parishes, for a monthly fee of 22 euros.
These parking spaces, intended for city residents, are provided through the Night Parking Agreement, which allows parking of a light vehicle in an EMEL or Telpark parking lot between 6 p.m. and 10 a.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends and holidays, according to city hall information.
