It is worth making all the way down the long, narrow staircase with the traditional Portuguese cobblestones to get to the beach. Walking down the staircase, you will be treated to views of pine trees, golden brooms, and other greenery that frame the path down. The reward is white sand, crystal clear water, and a peaceful atmosphere that makes the descent more than worthwhile.
Hidden between towering cliffs, this beach offers a tranquil atmosphere. Also known as Praia das Gaivotas or Praia do Vilalara, named after the upscale resort that sits just above it. Compared to other beaches in the Lagoa area, it’s medium-sized but offers plenty of room to relax. During the summer season, part of the beach is equipped with umbrellas, loungers, and lifeguard services.
Its hidden nature keeps it quiet and peaceful, mainly visited by guests from nearby hotels.
If you don’t like how windy it gets on the coast sometimes, this beach provides natural shelter from the wind thanks to do high cliffs, and the sea is normally calm.
Towards the eastern end, near a striking rock formation, the water remains shallow, creating a safe and suitable area for children to play. Still, the beach tends to attract more couples than families - likely because getting there involves a bit of a trek with lots of stairs. Like many beaches along the coast, there is a risk of falling rocks, so it's best to keep a safe distance from the cliffside.
Right on the beach is a lovely little eco-friendly bar for a drink and some shade. Open from 9am till 8pm, offering some sun loungers. The menu at this bar is a treat for food lovers. Their refreshing smoothies, fresh juices and cocktails are often a highlight for the visitors. I tried their maracuja mojito while relaxing on the sun lounger and it was the perfect way to spend a sunny afternoon. Next time, I plan to try an açaí bowl or another healthy option from their menu. Ecobeach bar offers a welcoming and friendly atmosphere and quick service. The reasonable prices and the relaxed, quiet atmosphere make it a great place to relax and enjoy. You can also rent a kayak or paddleboard if you're up for a bit of adventure on the water.
If you get hungry after the climb up leaving the beach, you can try one of the restaurants in the area. A varied culinary scene ensures there is something for everyone.
