The first podium finish belonged to José Ramalho, who came third in the short distance K1 final with a time of 14.08.95 minutes.

Ramalho, who had already been third in his qualifying round, finished the event 23.49 seconds ahead of the winner, Denmark's Mads Brandt (13.45.46), and 23.34 seconds ahead of the silver medallist, South Africa's Hamish Lovemore (13.45.61).

In acrobatic gymnastics, the last event of the day for the Portuguese, Miguel Lopes and Gonçalo Parreira secured third place with 28.550 points, behind Spain (28.820) and Azerbaijan (28.730) and ahead of Kazakhstan (27.760).

The Portuguese duo had secured a place in the “4” final, then, with the best qualifying performance, with 56,560 points.

Also in canoeing, in the women's K1 short distance final, Maria Rei placed sixth with a time of 16.07.97 minutes, in a race won by Sweden's Melina Andersson (15.20.64), with Hungary's Vanda Kiszli taking the silver medal (15.36.86) and Italy's Susanna Cicali the bronze (15.43.79).

The first Portuguese woman ever to compete in the Chinese martial art of wushu, in the nanquan-nandao combination, Sílvia Cruz finished the event in seventh place, having moved up one place in the nanquan discipline, after occupying eighth place, after competing in nandao.

In the double mini-trampoline, Diogo Cabral finished the qualification in seventh place with 47.800, thus missing out on one of the top four places that gave access to the semi-finals.

In beach handball, the Portuguese teams will play in the quarter-finals on Sunday, despite different outcomes in the 9 August matches: the women's team lost (2-0) and the men's team won (2-0), in both cases against Croatia.

In team sports, in mixed team corfball, Portugal won their first preliminary round match on 9 August, beating China 21-9, and will face Taiwan on 17 August.

The bronze medals for José Ramalho and Miguel Lopes and Gonçalo Parreira brought Portugal's total number of podium finishes at the World Games to five, after the gold for Gabriel Albuquerque and Lucas Santos in synchronised trampoline, and the silver and bronze in the mixed pairs for Lara Fernandes and Gabriel Henriques, and the women's pairs for Beatriz Carneiro and Inês Faria in acrobatic gymnastics.
