A new ranking from Holidu, the holiday rental platform, reveals where the Portuguese are heading this year. The study analysed the 50 most popular destinations for mid-August 2025, along with average nightly prices, offering a snapshot of national holiday habits and shifting preferences.
Albufeira remains the undisputed favourite, averaging €288 a night and holding onto the top spot it claimed in 2024. Sesimbra makes the biggest leap, climbing to second place at €203, replacing last year’s runner-up Portimão, which has dropped to seventh. São Martinho do Porto jumps from sixth to third (€200), followed by Nazaré, steady in fourth (€167). Quarteira reclaims a place in the top five at €298 a night.
Comporta tops the list of priciest destinations at €675 per night, ahead of Armação de Pêra (€393), Tróia (€372), Melides (€337) and Vilamoura (€296). The cheapest stays can be found in Góis (€90), with Portonovo (€100), Santarém (€108), Braga (€115) and Tomar (€118) also offering budget-friendly options.
The Algarve continues to dominate the rankings, securing 15 places in the top 50. However, some traditional favourites such as Monte Gordo and Portimão have fallen in rankings. The Alentejo holds a strong premium presence with Melides, Vila Nova de Milfontes, Porto Covo and Tróia.
Lisbon and the Tagus Valley strengthen their appeal, boosted by Sesimbra’s leap to second place and solid showings from Setúbal, Ericeira and Sintra. The North and Centre regions also make gains, with São Martinho do Porto, Nazaré and Braga standing out.
Beyond Portugal, Spain remains the go-to foreign alternative, with Sanxenxo, Vigo, Isla Canela, Ayamonte, Málaga and Portonovo attracting holidaymakers. Barcelona joins the list this year as one of the most expensive options, averaging €317 a night.
