The amendment to the clauses assigns increased responsibilities to the municipality, which now has the authority to undertake internal and external procedures (i.e., public procurement) for the development of the design and museography studies, which will prepare the space for its opening to the public.

Simplifying the terms of the partnership to expedite the renovation process of the Museum Centre and allow the community to regain access to history and a long-desired heritage space is the focus of these entities.

It is worth noting that the Shared Management Protocol for the Lagos Museum Centre of the National Railway Museum was signed at a commemorative ceremony held at the Lagos Cultural Centre on July 30, 2022, precisely on the date of the centennial celebration of the arrival of the train in Lagos.

The station's characteristic role as a branch line terminal led to the existence of a substantial locomotive stable and a turntable. With the construction and commissioning of the new railway station—now in the 21st century—the old Lagos Station was decommissioned, with those structures preserved and integrated into the Foundation's heritage as a Railway Centre, remaining open for visits for several years. The need for a more comprehensive renovation of the building, the lack of an exhibition space, and the lack of human resources to maintain the space permanently ultimately led to its closure. However, both the Foundation and the municipality have always viewed this closure as temporary, never losing sight of the goal of enhancing the space and reopening it to the public.

In the protocol signed at the time, the municipality had already acknowledged its willingness to accept the transfer of management of the Lagos Museum Centre, undertake the renovation work on the former stables and surrounding area, and subsequent maintenance of the building, providing the equipment and human resources for the Centre’s operations, including its opening to the public, surveillance, cleaning, promotion, and development. It is now also responsible for developing the projects.
