"The workers rejected the company's proposal. At this time, the strikes remain," Sara Gligó, of the Federation of Transport and Communications Unions (FECTRANS), told Lusa.

However, the union leader emphasised that the workers still believe in a "last effort" by Lisbon Metro management to get closer to their goals.

"We believe that what separates us has nothing to do with financial matters. Therefore, the company can make a last-ditch effort to get there," she argued.

Sara Gligó also said that a discussion will take place today regarding the minimum services to be provided during the strike.

Lusa also contacted a source at the Lisbon Metro for comment on this decision, but has not yet received a response.

Lisbon Metro workers announced a week ago that they would hold partial strikes on September 9th and 11th due to the "lack of response to their demands."

The strike will take place from 5:00 to 10:00 am for operations workers, from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm for office workers, from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm for fixed and administrative workers, and from 2:00 am to 7:00 am for night and track workers, according to the union.

The demands include an increase in meal vouchers, vacation and Christmas bonuses, and changes to the maximum weekly work week.

The Lisbon Metro operates four lines daily: Yellow (Rato-Odivelas), Green (Telheiras-Cais do Sodré), Blue (Reboleira-Santa Apolónia), and Red (Airport-São Sebastião).

The metro typically operates between 6:30 AM and 1:00 AM.
