At the end of August, storage levels by river basin were higher than the average for the month of August (1990/91 to 2023/24), except for the Mondego, Mira, and Ribeiras do Barlavento basins.
Of the monitored reservoirs, 36% had water availability levels exceeding 80% of their total volume and 4% had water availability levels below 40% of their total volume.
The Douro and Guadiana basins had the highest water volume, at 88.2% and 84.9%, respectively, followed by the Vouga (79.5%), Sotavento (78.4%), Cávado (79.3%), Tejo (78%), Oeste and Alentejo (77%), Arade (75.7%), and Lima (71.5%).
At the end of August, the Barlavento basin had the lowest water volume, at 48.4%, followed by the Sado (51.7%), Mira (54.5%), and Ave (57.1%).
The Barlavento Algarve basin held the least water for many months, having recovered last winter. A year ago, it had 16.7%.
Each river basin can have more than one reservoir.
