In a statement, the Faro Territorial Command, through the Faro Traffic Detachment, stated that over the weekend, it conducted an enforcement operation aimed at combating dangerous manoeuvres and stunts performed in public spaces in the Algarve region.
This operation resulted in the seizure of 20 vehicles, including eight motorcycles, as well as 55 traffic violations under the Traffic Code and complementary legislation.
Three traffic violations were also issued for failure to undergo mandatory periodic inspections, as well as two for tire irregularities, and two traffic violations for lack of a valid driver's license.
These violations involved gatherings of car and motorcycle drivers in public places, with the aim of performing stunts and acrobatics.
The GNR (National Republican Guard) describes these gatherings as "putting at risk the physical safety of the participants themselves, other road users, and third parties who travel to these locations to watch."
The operation was supported by the Intervention Detachment (DI) of the Faro Territorial Command.
The GNR adds that it will remain vigilant about this phenomenon and will continue to develop prevention and inspection measures in areas of the region associated with this type of practice to "ensure the safety of all citizens and safeguard public order."
With the drivers in Albufeira using the streets as a race track for years, why is it taking so long to enforce traffic laws.
