The project, which will be 10 kilometres long, is provided for in Council of Ministers Resolution (RCM) 69/2025 of March 20. According to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing (MIH), "it is one of the country's strategic road investments, valued at approximately €80 million and long-requested by the populations and local authorities of the municipalities involved, given its importance for economic development and reducing the region's isolation."

The statement states that this is the construction of an alternative road between the Canedo Interchange of the A-32 Motorway and the Serrinha industrial zone, extending the existing bypass. This road crosses the municipalities of Santa Maria da Feira and Castelo de Paiva, in the Aveiro district, the parishes of Canedo, Vale, and Vila Maior, and Raiva, Pedorido, and Paraíso, as well as the municipality of Gondomar, in the Porto district, in the parish of Lomba.

Quoted in the statement, Minister Miguel Pinto Luz noted that this is "a highly ambitious project, which is yet another example of strengthening national cohesion and equal opportunities for all citizens, regardless of where they live (...) and is a fundamental function of the State."

The deadline for submitting proposals is October 23rd. The project, launched by Infraestruturas de Portugal, has a 900-day execution period.
