This week, I had the privilege of representing the Portuguese multinational group Greenvolt at Expo Real 2025 in Munich. As an International Business Consultant, my mission was to connect with people and investors in real estate who share our vision of a more sustainable and energy-conscious society. The fair confirmed that we are moving in the right direction and that the future of real estate is deeply connected to renewable energy.
Greenvolt and Greenvolt Next are active in thirteen countries across Europe, the United Kingdom, Japan, Indonesia, Serbia, Iceland, and the United States. Together, they deliver renewable energy solutions that combine innovation with environmental responsibility. What became clear at Expo Real is that sustainability has evolved from being a side topic into a central priority for the entire real estate world.
Conversations About Change
Throughout the fair, we met with leaders from different sectors like logistics, industry, hospitality, airports, and urban development. What impressed me most was the sincerity of their interest. These were not just polite conversations; there was genuine curiosity about how renewable energy can redefine the way we build and live.
Many executives we spoke with are eager to make their projects less dependent on traditional energy sources. They see renewable solutions not only as a contribution to the planet but also as the way to build resilience and long-term value. Hearing this enthusiasm firsthand, especially from investors and developers across Europe, reinforced my belief that Greenvolt’s mission truly meets the spirit of the moment.
Sustainability Without Borders
Germany remains a strong advocate for the energy transition, yet this year I noticed how global the discussion has become. Several investors from Central and Eastern Europe expressed great interest in collaborating, inspired by what Portugal has achieved in combining innovation, policy, and stability. It was rewarding to see how the Portuguese approach to clean energy has become a reference point for others.
Having attended Expo Real almost every year since 2006, I can say that the tone of the fair has changed. The conversations were less about speculative growth and more about meaningful transformation. There was a collective understanding that the challenges we face, from housing shortages to climate change requires intelligent, cooperative solutions. The fair felt more thoughtful, more forward-looking, and filled with quiet determination.
A Sector Reinventing Itself
This year’s discussions touched on many new areas. Proptech and data integration are becoming essential in the management of sustainable buildings. The rise of logistics platforms powered by renewable energy and the integration of data centers into urban areas are reshaping how we think about energy use and urban infrastructure. There is also growing awareness that sustainability is not just an environmental issue but a foundation for economic and social stability.
Portugal was also part of many private conversations. The country continues to be seen as a safe and attractive destination for investment, and a place where innovation and security go hand in hand. Seeing Portuguese companies like Greenvolt gaining recognition as leaders in this transformation made me proud.
A Confident Step Toward the Future
As I left the fairgrounds in Munich, I felt deeply encouraged. The real estate sector is entering a new phase, one where sustainability and responsibility define success. Expo Real 2025 reminded me that the future belongs to those who adapt, collaborate, and think beyond traditional limits.
For Greenvolt, this fair was more than an opportunity to meet potential partners. It was proof that our mission resonates across borders and industries. The journey toward a greener, more responsible built environment is no longer a distant goal, I felt it is happening now, and I am proud to be part of it.
