"The [League's] position is to comply with the law, in coordination with the security forces, PSP (Public Security Police) and GNR (National Republican Guard)," Reinaldo Teixeira told Lusa news agency at the end of the panel he was invited to, "In conversation with...", on the last day of the third edition of S4Congresso (Safety, Security, Service, Sports events).
The international congress, organized by the Authority for the Prevention and Combat of Violence in Sports (APCVD) in Viseu, this year has the motto "Towards safer and more welcoming sporting events."
During the conversation, and in front of an audience full of Public Security Police (PSP) and National Republican Guard (GNR) officers from across the country, Reinaldo Teixeira placed any decision in the hands of security agencies.
"They have to tell me how I have to do it so that this can happen [having alcoholic beverages in sports venues]. The law is clear, it has rules, and we have to comply with the law," he said.
Reinaldo Teixeira stated that "sports clubs want to allow low-alcohol beverages—beer and cider—to be consumed in stadiums," but the League must "be the first to say" that it wants security.
"If bringing alcohol into stadiums jeopardises that security, I will be the first to say we don't want it," he admitted, while acknowledging that "it is possible" for alcoholic beverages to be consumed and security maintained.
Finally, he told Lusa news agency that the League is convinced that, "gradually," it will "prove that fans deserve this experience inside the stadiums."
"Now, we all have to comply with the law, respect those who lead and oversee, and, in collaboration with sports associations, demonstrate this trust, as happens in various parts of the world and in Europe," Reinaldo Teixeira argued.
