"The price of carrots was the one that increased the most last week, according to DECO PROTeste's analysis. Between October 8th and 15th, carrots cost 1.13 euros per kilo, an increase of 11 cents per kilo (up 11%) compared to the previous week," the organisation states.

According to Consumer Protection estimates, "with this increase, this vegetable reaches its highest price of the year," and "the lowest price was recorded on April 30, when a kilo of carrots cost 99 cents."

The price of the basic food basket monitored by DECO PROteste, in turn, fell 39 cents (down 0.16%) last week and now costs €241.76.

"At the beginning of this year, it cost 5.59 euros less (down 2.37 percent). Almost four years ago, on January 5, 2022, when DECO PROteste began this analysis, it was possible to buy the same products for 54.06 euros less (down 28.8 percent)," the published note reads.

Which products have increased the most?

Last week, between October 8th and 15th, besides carrots, the products whose prices increased the most were sliced ​​cured cheese (up 8%), cereal flakes (up 8%), and horse mackerel (up 8%).

According to DECO PROTeste, "if we compare this week's prices with those of the first week of the year, on January 1st, 2025, the largest percentage price increases were seen in products such as ground roasted coffee (up 32%), broccoli (up 32%), and oranges (up 29%)."

"Since DECO PROteste began this analysis on January 5th, 2022, the largest percentage increases were seen in beef for cooking (up 106%), eggs (up 78%), and oranges (up 77%)," it further states.
