The church is dedicated to Saint Anthony, the patron saint of Lisbon and Portugal, despite the fact that he passed away long before this decidedly modern church began to be built. Construction initially began in 1887 and finished some 25 years later in 1912.
The unique architectural style of the church is neo-Gothic, a style that is not found elsewhere in town, which makes it truly stand out from the rest of the buildings. Instead of the usually quite elaborate designs you can usually find in churches, it is quite modest with unique artwork behind the altar piece, and simply coloured stained glass windows, which allow the light to play with the interior.
When visiting the area, it is certainly worth a visit.
