The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) had predicted showers for Wednesday night in the Serra da Estrela region, which was forecast as snow above 1,600 to 1,800 meters altitude due to a sharp drop in temperature.

Mainland Portugal is being affected by a cold front of moderate to strong activity, causing rain, thunderstorms and wind, according to the IPMA.
