In the statement, the GNR emphasizes that, from January to October 15th, it recorded 6,616 accidents involving motorcycles, resulting in 98 deaths, 547 serious injuries and 4,822 minor injuries.

It also states that in 2024 there were 6,387 accidents involving two-wheeled vehicles, resulting in 103 fatalities, 583 serious injuries and 4,551 minor injuries.

Following MotoGP, a significant increase in motorcycle traffic volume is expected on the main access roads to the Algarve, says the GNR in the statement.

The operation will have a particular focus on the districts of Aveiro, Beja, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Évora, Leiria, Lisbon, Porto, Santarém, Setúbal, and Faro.

As part of the operation, the GNR (National Republican Guard) will also carry out awareness campaigns and road safety enforcement, focusing on risky behaviours such as speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol or psychotropic substances, and incorrect use of helmets or protective equipment.

Following the event, the GNR informs that the airspace in the area of ​​the Algarve International Circuit is closed during the MotoGP Grand Prix.

The main access to the Circuit southbound, and the A22 motorway in the Spain-Portugal direction between the Alvor and Mexilhoeira junctions, will also be closed between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM on Sunday.
