"Mercadona, a supermarket company with more than 65 stores in Portugal, will open a new supermarket in Beja next year, located in the new Retail Park, and is currently recruiting for this new store," reads a statement released by the group.

According to the Spanish brand, the vacancies open are to work at the aforementioned supermarket are for store operators.

"All job offers include a training period, with a permanent contract, and are paid from day one. Furthermore, during this period, all expenses are covered by the company – food, transportation, accommodation, and also trips home twice a month for all employees," the statement said.

In the same statement, Mercadona notes that "it is present in 12 districts in Portugal and already has 7,000 employees, with 1,700 joining the company in 2024."

"To meet its expansion plan, the company is recruiting for various roles, reinforcing its focus on the national territory and creating stable, quality employment," it explains in a statement.

It reveals that "at the beginning of the year, the company announced an 8.5% increase for all employees, applied from January 2025, setting their starting salary at €14,963.90 gross annually, with salary progression up to €20,465.10 achieved in a maximum of 4 years."

"To these amounts are added the daily meal allowance and the additional pay for Sundays, holidays and night work hours. With the fulfilment of individual and company goals, an Annual Bonus is also added, which from the first full calendar year is equivalent to an extra salary and, from 4 years of seniority, is two extra salaries," it said.
