The Anglican congregation of Praia da Luz is a warm and inclusive community that meets in the Catholic church of Nossa Senhora da Luz, extending a sincere welcome to all. We are one of three congregations that form the St Vincent’s Anglican Chaplaincy, which serves the Algarve.

Services in Luz are held three times a week: Sundays at 8am and 11.30am, and on Thursdays at 10.30am. Our worship is rooted in the sacramental tradition, centred around Holy Communion, and we embrace a spirit of radical hospitality. This means we welcome those with great faith and those with very little; those who attend church often and those who haven’t been in a long time; and those who have tried to follow and those who have failed. The important thing is to find a space for God to work in our lives and to find that in communion with one another.

The congregations meet for coffee each week after the 8am service and then once a month after the 11.30am service. Fellowship is important as it gives the opportunity to meet friendly like like-minded people who are happy to share their experiences of living in Portugal. It can also help in combating loneliness, particularly for people new to the area. For visitors, the fellowship gives the opportunity to immerse in local Portuguese life for the international community.

We are a growing community with long-standing links to the local parish and surrounding area. We welcome both long-term residents and visitors to the Algarve. Whether you’re seeking fellowship, a place to worship, or a quiet moment of reflection, you will find a place here.
