In conjunction with the two other congregations that form the St. Vincent’s Anglican Chaplaincy, the congregation supports a variety of local charities.
One such charity is NECI which stands for Núcleo Especialisado para o Cidadão Incluso (Specialized Centre for the Included Citizen). It provides crucial support for people facing disabilities, incapacities, handicaps, or developmental delays in childhood.
The Mustard Seed Charity. This local Lagos-based charity helps people who are hungry or in need by providing non-perishable food baskets, donates furniture, household appliances and clothes. This help is provided on a no-questions-asked basis and the recipients are mainly Portuguese.
Guarda Chuva Charity. This association has been created to promote a small number of organisations in the Algarve on behalf of needy individuals, children and families and animal welfare. This support includes help with fundraising projects and support and encouragement to individuals who want to volunteer their time to help one or more of the charities. It provides essential aid, including food, as well as personal and household necessities to local families residing in the Tunes area.
A ROCHA Portugal is an international Christian organisation dedicated to environmental conservation and protection, with headquarters and a field study centre (Cruzinha) in the Algarve, in the Ria de Alvor area, near Mexilhoeira Grande. Their work includes beach clean-ups and welcomes volunteers from all over the world to its field study centre, providing practical experience in conservation projects and an intercultural community environment.
The church´s ability to support these charities monetarily relies on the generosity of the community through church donations, dedicated fundraising events, and the established Bertie Watson Trust. In addition, there is a monthly collection at the church of nonperishable food donations for local food banks.
We invite you to join us in supporting these local causes and making our community a better place for everyone.
