For the third consecutive year, the city hosts the traditional end-of-year race, which promises to bring together hundreds of participants. The 3rd edition of the event will take place on December 20, with the meeting point scheduled for 8pm, in the parking lot in front of Albufeira City Hall.
In addition to the 10.7km running race, the event also includes a 5.8km walk. The goal is to provide an opportunity for socialising while encouraging physical activity. Participation is open to all interested individuals, who can choose to join the group of professional athletes who will be present at the race.
Starting and finishing at the City Hall, the race passes through several emblematic locations in the city of Albufeira. After completing an initial stretch along Avenida dos Descobrimentos, runners continue through the old town, on a route that includes a climb to the Pau da Bandeira viewpoint. The route continues along the entire length of Avenida Infante Dom Henrique, to Santa Eulália. The last kilometre of the course is back on Avenida dos Descobrimentos.
For the walk, the shorter route has a first part similar to the race. After passing through the old town, participants return to the starting point via Rua do Movimento das Forças Armadas.
The 3rd edition of the São Silvestre Algarve Race takes place just days before Albufeira becomes the European City of Sport 2026. Registration is now open and can be done through the event's official website.
