According to the latest "Barometer of itinerant tourism for the 2025 off-season" by Camping-Car Park, a European network of Motorhome Service Areas (ASA), the Camping-Car Park study, which represents the choices of approximately 610,000 French owners of leisure vehicles (of which 80.7% are motorhomes), shows that Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Germany, and Italy, in that order, are the preferred destinations for the French who plan to travel outside their country during the off-season.
In terms of destination type, these travellers mainly seek seaside locations, followed by the countryside, mountains, and cities. Regarding the factors that most influence the choice of these destinations, respondents cite "tranquillity and security" (72.4%), "quality of service offered" (66.7%), and "affordable price" (48.3%), according to a report by Publituris.
The growth of the Camping-Car Park network in Portugal is considered an appealing factor for European motorhome owners. The company currently has three ASAs in operation (Lavos, Pinhel, and Penacova) and is developing an ambitious expansion plan for the coming years.
According to the most recent statistics, there are approximately 3.2 million motorhomes in Europe, of which more than 28,000 are registered in Portugal.

Wherever they come from I notice numerous RV’s parked in Continente parking lots, and a parking area near my home. I wonder what they do with their toilet waste. I have seen some dump “something” on lawns of small parks, and on the ground elsewhere. Parking in public parking lots that do not accommodate these issues should be prohibited. Also, I find travel vehicles to be wasteful in poor fuel consumption efficiency.
