“The sections between Piornos [in the municipality of Covilhã], Torre and Lagoa Comprida [in the municipality of Seia], on National Road 338, were closed to traffic at 6:45 PM due to snowfall. At 8:15 PM, the Portela do Arão-Lagoa Comprida and Sabugueiro-Lagoa Comprida connections, both in the municipality of Seia, were closed,” a source from the Sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command of Beiras and Serra da Estrela told the Lusa news agency.

The same source added that it continues to snow in the central massif and there is no forecast for the reopening of those sections.

The Portuguese Institute for the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) forecasts for this Monday indicated snowfall in the highest points of the Serra da Estrela mountain range, with the snow level descending to 1,400/1,600 meters from late afternoon onwards.
