This compares with €483.4 million in the same period of 2024, the highest quarterly figure of last year, after €501.9 million in the first quarter and €457.3 million in the second.

In 2024, Portugal recorded its highest-ever volume of online sports betting (2,053.2 ME), accumulating to 1,463.8 ME by the third quarter of 2025.

The third-quarter figure is the highest of 2025, surpassing the €501.9 million of the first quarter, and the fourth-highest ever, only behind the €573.9 million of the first three months of 2024 and the fourth quarters of 2024 (€ 533.7 ME) and 2023 (€532.1 ME).

The annual volume of sports betting has been increasing, with 2024 recording 331.6 million, up from 2023 (1,721.6 million) and 0.5 million, up from 2022 (€1,482.1 million).

In 2021, the volume of bets reached €1,402.2 million, bringing the total for the last five years to €7,467.9 million.

Despite these amounts, the gross revenue for the third quarter of 2025 (€99.7 million) falls short of the previous two quarters (€114.9 million in the first and €109.2 million in the second), according to the third-quarter 2025 report from the Gaming Regulation and Inspection Service of Turismo de Portugal.

Once again, between July and September 2025, football was the preferred sport among bettors, accounting for 71.8%, surpassing tennis (22.1%) and other unspecified sports (6.1%).

The Premier League and the Champions League accounted for the largest share of football bets, at 11.4% and 9.3%, respectively.

In tennis, bettors invested in the US Open and Wimbledon, both Grand Slam tournaments, accounting for 14.9% and 12.1% of bets on the sport, respectively.
