France is in the grip of a scandal after a report last year alleged that Perrier has been filtering its mineral water, despite strict rules against altering it.

The practice was quietly approved by government ministers, who revised the regulations to permit micro-filtration while still labelling the product as “mineral water”.
As a result, the entire French mineral water industry is awaiting the EU ruling that could strip Perrier of its 160-year-old label.
