The information was published in a statement by the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation and the Ministry of Economy and Territorial Cohesion, indicating that the "deadline for submitting applications ends on 31 March 2026, and construction should begin in the second half of next year, with a maximum completion period of 48 months."
The 22 eligible schools, from the 2nd and 3rd cycles of Basic Education and Secondary Education, are those "classified as Very Urgent in the Sectoral Agreement of Commitment for the Financing of the Recovery/Rehabilitation Program," which the Government signed with the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities (ANMP) in 2023.
Among them are the Dr. João Brito Camacho Basic and Secondary Schools in Almodôvar, and Michel Giacometti, in Quinta do Conde, Sesimbra; the Luís de Camões Basic School in Lisbon; and the Eugénio de Andrade Basic School in Porto; as well as the Serpa Secondary School, Bocage Secondary School in Setúbal; Dr. Jorge Augusto Correia Secondary School in Tavira; and Camilo Castelo Branco Secondary School in Vila Real.
"Schools with applications approved under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) or those that received support from PT2030 [Innovation and Digital Transition Program] are excluded, with the exception of those with contracts terminated by the date of publication of this notice."
The city councils of the 19 municipalities where the schools are located must also submit "construction or renovation projects that contribute to the energy transition," and each application must be for only one educational establishment.
Costs for civil works, including landscaping within the perimeter of the establishments, as well as the purchase of school furniture and educational, IT, communication, and sports equipment, may be financed.
