After weeks of hot sunny days, the weather turned and rain threatened, but that didn’t deter over sixty people from bringing their picnic baskets and chairs to participate. Donated homemade goodies were on offer together with a beverage bar and entertainment in the form of songs, sketches and monologues performed by some of our talented thespians.
This year’s event was held with the aim of not just having a good time but to support the Portimão Soup Kitchen, which feeds over 200 people a week and where several of our members volunteer. Our guests went above and beyond to support this and dug deep into their pockets, resulting in €1000 being raised for the charity. Chair of The Algarveans, Angela Theobold, met with the head of the Soup Kitchen, Joy Borga,n to present the oversized cheque and the money later that week.
Many thanks to our social team for a magnificent job arranging this, our bakers, our performers and all the unseen helpers that set up and clear up. A big thank you to Dulce and Carlos for opening up their lovely home and garden to us, and of course our gratitude to all our wonderful members who donated to such a worthy charity; proof that giving back to the community can also be great fun!
