Hasselmyr is recognised for his bold and distinctive approach to watercolour. Unlike traditional seascapes or soft-toned landscapes, his work often features vivid, geometric depictions of industrial architecture. His artistic journey changed significantly after his first visit to the Algarve in 1978, when the region’s colourful homes and vibrant lifestyle evoked memories of his childhood in South America. That spark has continued to influence his work for five decades.

“The Algarve has always reminded me of the places that first awakened my love for colour and form,”Hasselmyr says.

Over his 50-year career, Hasselmyr has exhibited widely across many countries, earning awards and recognition in juried exhibitions. His recent works also include delicate studies of flowers, furthering his exploration of shape and colour.
