According to INE statistics: "Since the beginning of 2025, there have been historic monthly highs in the number of passengers handled at national airports, with the exception of February". Counting the period from January to August, growth is 4.9% to 49.8 million.
Lisbon's overcrowded airport registered the least significant increase: 3.1%, with 22.45 million passengers. Among the largest airports, Faro performed best, growing 6.8% to 7.3 million, followed by Porto, with a 5.5% increase to 11.34 million.
The United Kingdom continues to be the main origin and destination country for flights and is gaining momentum. It has grown 2.7% in arrivals and 2.5% in departures since the beginning of the year. France ranks second, although registering a slight decrease. Spain, Germany, and Italy also make up the top five, with growth in the latter two markets standing out in arrivals: 8.1% and 10.4%, respectively.
Compared to the pre-COVID period, passenger traffic was 20% higher than in 2019 in August. Between January and August, the increase is 22.45%.
