The Polish government is banning fur farming, with 339 votes in favour in the lower house, ordering operators to shut down by December 31, 2031.

Those who comply by that date will be eligible for compensation under amendments to the animal protection law, while farm workers will receive increased severance during the legislative process.
According to Statistics Poland, the number of fur farms fell from 810 in 2015 to 209 in 2024, and exports dropped from more than 10 million pelts to about 1.8 million.
