The Tournament had a field of 32 bowlers, mainly from the UK, and the winner after 4 days of exciting bowling was Lorraine Hirst. The format is slightly unusual as bowlers draw a partner on a daily basis, playing in round robin groups.
In Week Two, we held a more traditional Doubles Tournament where bowlers played with their own bowling partner. We had 24 pairs of bowlers, again mainly from the UK, with a total prize fund of 2250€. The main Tournament was won by Jo Leeman and Geoff Watson, and a consolation Shield was won by Pedro Yates and Kevin Spencer.
The bowlers in both weeks enjoyed great bowling and plenty of socialising. We even managed to avoid the worst of the weather in our second week!
In between the two tournaments, we held the annual Top Block Challenge Cup. This challenge aims to promote greater awareness of mental health issues and suicide risk. The challenge included both lawn bowls and crown green bowls, and the local team retained the Cup for the second year!
The 2026 tournaments will run from 2nd to 13th November and full details are available on the Club website (www.alvorbowlsclub.com).
Alvor Bowls Club welcomes visitors and new members playing both flat green and crown green bowls and full details can be found on the website. Tuition and equipment can be provided for new bowlers. Crown green bowls takes place at the Club every Tuesday afternoon.
