The event will take place in Praia da Rocha, with the Clube Naval de Portimão also playing a key role.
In total, the Portimão IQFoil U23 World Championship 2025 will feature 150 athletes and 20 coaches, accompanied by 500 family members, along with 50 staff members, 50 volunteers, 20 partners, and sponsors, according to a report by Sul Infromação.
The participation of windsurfers from around the world has already been confirmed, coming from nearly 30 countries, including Germany, Australia, Canada, Croatia, Spain, the Philippines, France, Greece, Italy, Norway, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Portugal, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, Singapore, and Sweden.
One of the athletes present will be Grae Morris, an Australian and silver medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
The sporting event opens on September 7th at 6:00 pm (next to the bandstand) with a parade through the Portimão Riverside to the Naval Club, where an athlete representing each participating country will take the stage.
After registration and verification by the organizers, free practice sessions will take place on September 6th and 7th. The competition will begin on September 8th at 12:00 pm at Praia da Rocha.
The races will run from this time until September 13th, concluding that Saturday with a closing ceremony and awards ceremony scheduled for 6:00 pm. The finals will be held on the 13th.
According to the organizers, Portimão's choice to host the IQFoil U-23 World Championship is related to "attracting international visitors, promoting the municipality internationally, developing sports tourism, promoting its reputation, and, ultimately, its direct and indirect economic impact."
The event is organized by the Portimão Naval Club and also has the support of the Portimão City Council, the Portuguese Sailing Federation, IPDJ-Portugal, and Algarve Tourism.
