"Cape Verde makes history!" congratulated the government, led by Ulisses Correia e Silva, referring to the team's qualification for the 2026 World Cup, whose matches will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
For the government, the 'Blue Sharks,' through this qualification, are taking the country's name "even further," which is "a source of pride for all Cape Verdeans, both within and outside the archipelago."
The Cape Verdean Prime Minister reiterated to reporters at the stadium that this was a historic moment, "a great victory, a great game."
The head of government also emphasised that the Cape Verdean players demonstrated their ability to compete against "any team."
When asked about the logistical issues, Correia e Silva emphasised that they will support the team, as they have been doing, and that they will also count on FIFA's help.
Cape Verde is officially in the World Cup after beating Eswatini, in the final round of the African qualifying phase, 3-0, with goals scored by Dailon Livramento (48th minute), Willy Semedo (51st minute), and Ianique dos Santos Tavares (90th minute +1).
The Portuguese-speaking nation topped Group D with 23 points.
The Government had granted a day off and tickets for the game, in Praia, disappeared shortly after going on sale.
