The study was conducted by the international consulting firm Umlaut, awarding Vodafone 958 points, "out of a possible 1,000 across the various domains analysed, surpassing the second-place competitor (which scored 945 points) by 13 points and the third-place competitor (which scored 932 points) by 26 points."
The operator stood out in the data service area, achieving "465 points out of a possible 480." Regarding crowdsourced quality, based on customer experience, "the score obtained was the highest: 235 points out of 250." In the overall reliability category, "which analyses data, crowdsourcing, and voice, Vodafone also achieved the highest score, 577 out of a possible 600 points, with a 'very good' rating."
"Given this performance, Umlaut awarded Vodafone's mobile network in Portugal the title of Best in Test."
During the blackout, Meo's network was the most resilient. Although data eventually dropped out, I never lost mobile voice and SMS.

Is this an ad for Vodafone? How about some data concerning the other telecoms?

Vodafone keeps spamming my company email address, a good reason to avoid them.
Most people probably don't know that the business email address from the annual IES declaration can be downloaded with the rest of the data when someone buys access to your company data. Typically, Informa DB buys the whole lot and sells the data to other companies, many of which abuse the data for spamming businesses.

I agree with Mark. While I appreciate Portugal News its articles are usually not very complete, and leave out the whole story in many cases. In this story they should have indicated the ranking of NOS, WOO, MEO and any other carriers in this market.

Absolute RUBBISH! We live less than 5 kms from São Brás de Alportel and neither Vodafone (who told me there were not enough subscribers to put another relay antenna) or NOS work reliably here. Only MEO now gives a useful mobile signal.

This information would have been really valuable and significant if the second and third providers were identified and how large or small is the spread in their ranking. As it is, it is simply interesting, not much value.

This is not true. In the city, NOS has the best signal, and in remote or village areas, MEO works better. Vodafone is the third best, but I don’t recommend using Vodafone for mobile or WiFi. I use Vodafone wifi, and it’s really bad now. They even tricked me by saying I had extra WiFi speed for 2 years, but it wasn’t true. I only got a refund after complaining for 2 years and finally using the online complaint book (Livro de Reclamação).
