The Azorean government justifies the adjustment in the maximum retail price with "recent fluctuations in the international market for reference prices of petroleum and energy products."

As of September 1, diesel will cost 1.445 euros per litre in the Azores, 1.1 cents less than the previous month.

In August, the price of fuel had risen 5.8 cents, after falling 10.8 cents in the previous four months.

The price of petrol, which has seen less fluctuation in the Azores, remains at €1.595 per litre in September.

Butane gas, which began monthly price adjustments in January, is seeing its second consecutive price increase, despite having decreased by 27.6 cents between March and July.

The maximum prices for petroleum and energy products in the Azores are "changed on the 1st of each month and by amounts equivalent to the variation in the monthly European Price (PE)."
