The count is based on the IPMA's network of atmospheric electrical discharge detection and location in mainland Portugal, installed in Viana do Castelo, Bragança, Castelo Branco, Santa Cruz, and Olhão, a source from the Institute told Lusa.
The IPMA issued yellow warnings for thunderstorms today for all districts of mainland Portugal, except Bragança.
Mainland Portugal is being affected by a cold front of moderate to strong activity, causing rain, thunderstorms, and wind, according to the IPMA, which issued warnings for the country due to heavy rain, especially for today.
The National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) recorded 150 incidents between midnight and 7 am today related to heavy rain and strong winds.
