After several unconfirmed confirmations, Dacia has now made it public that its Spring electric car will be sold in Ireland starting in 2024.
The Spring has been available in European countries since 2021, and depending on local government subsidies for EV sales, costs may be as low as €12,000. This makes it the most affordable electric vehicle available, except from quadricycles with speed limits like the Citroen Ami. The Irish pricing has not yet been officially confirmed, but it is probable that the Spring will be the least expensive EV here when it does.
Ireland won't get the Spring that is now being sold; instead, Ireland will get a vehicle that has a 305km range, the car utilises a 27.4kWh battery, and its front-mounted electric motor only produces 44hp. The time from 0 to 100 km/h is 19 seconds.
Head of Renault and Dacia Patrick Magee said: "We are delighted that Dacia Spring will come to Ireland in 2024. It fills a niche in the Irish electric car market for a highly usable, quality EV that won’t break the bank and which makes electric vehicle ownership more realistic than ever."
