Reported by the Central Statistics Office (CSO), the employment rate for those aged 15 to 64 increased to 74.2% in the year's second quarter, marking the highest level since the data series' inception in 1998.
As the unemployment rate for women aged 15 to 74 fell to 4.2% from 4.5 percent at the same time in 2022, the proportion of women in this age cohort also increased to a new high, reaching 70.5%.
The report showed there were 121,200 jobless persons aged 15 to 74 in the period from April to June, or 4.4%, which was less than the same figure of 4.5% for Q2 lay year.
The unemployment rate for young people (aged 15 to 24) rose from 11.4 percent in the same quarter of 2022 to 12.2 percent in the most recent quarter.
Yet, the total estimated labour force, which is the total of all individuals in the 15–89 age range who are either employed or unemployed, increased by 3.4% in the past year to reach about 2,764,200, and the estimated participation rate increased from 65.2% to 65.7% during the same period.
