Pawel took 2:23:54 to complete. His victory completes an amazing eight days for him personally, having tied the knot on Saturday.

“After the race, I'm really happy and not really tired,” he said to RTÉ News.

Former women's national marathon champion Aoife Cooke of Eagle Athletic Club in Cork completed in 2:56:33.

“It feels amazing,” Aoife said later. “It's a marathon I always wanted to race, being the home marathon, so that feels really good to have won it this year.”

More than 10,000 runners competed in the 10km, half marathon, and full marathon.

To keep competitors fuelled, more than 80,000 bottles of water and energy drinks were set out, along with 15,000 bananas and 120,000 jellybeans.

There were 550 foreign runners in this year's marathon, representing more than 26 nations.

Over 500 volunteers assisted with event planning and oversight.

Michal Wojcik won the 10K in 31:22, while Niamh O'Mahony of the An Riocht Athletic Club in Kerry took first place in the women's 10K in 35:25.

A record €150,000 has already been raised for regional and national charities, according to Race Director Eamon Hayes.

“This has been the best year yet for numbers, fundraising and for the overall success of the festival,” he stated.
