This year’s event welcomes swimmers representing 11 different nationalities – a testament to its growing global appeal. Confirmed participants hail from Norway, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Germany, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Brazil, the United States, and Poland, each bringing their unique stories and passion for open water swimming.
Timed perfectly with the 55th anniversary of the Algarve’s dedication to tourism, this year’s swim continues to enjoy the support of Visit Algarve, the Municipality of Lagoa, and a wide network of local and national partners who believe in the power of community-led events.
Unlike traditional competitions, SwimParty10km Algarve® is a non-recorded official time event, however, it will have time recorded by Multicrono. This is a boutique swim experience, where camaraderie, connection and the joy of the journey take precedence over rankings and stopwatch times. Whether swimming solo with or without a wetsuit, or taking part as a three-person relay, each participant is invited to fully embrace the spirit of shared challenge and coastal exploration.
The 10km course leads swimmers through a spectacular stretch of Algarve coastline, starting at Praia do Carvalho and winding past Praia do Vale de Centeanes and the famous Praia do Carvoeiro, before finishing at the stunning Praia dos Caneiros — an experience many describe as an “open water heaven.”
After the swim, participants will be welcomed at Rei das Praias, one of the Algarve’s most loved beachfront restaurants, for a celebratory seafood lunch, complemented by Alentejo wines from Herdade do Sobroso and an exclusive wine tasting for those lingering to enjoy the afternoon. Delícias bakery returns with their signature touch of sweetness. Last year’s sea-inspired cake was a sugar-happy highlight – we can’t wait to see (and taste) what surprise they’ll bring this time.
Local arts and culture are also celebrated through one-of-a-kind prizes handcrafted by the iconic Olaria Porches Pottery, giving swimmers the opportunity to take home a piece of Algarvean ceramic tradition.
Safety and care remain paramount. Swimmers are supported both in and out of the water by the Portimão Maritime Police, the Lagoa Fire Brigade, and a team of seasoned volunteers. On-course nutrition is expertly managed by Precision Fuel & Hydration, ensuring participants are fuelled and hydrated from start to finish.
“The 2024 edition proved that when community, nature and sport come together, magic happens. This year, we aim even higher – more swimmers, more stories, and more reasons to love the Algarve,” says Mariana Moura Santos, co-founder of SwimParty10km Algarve®.
Co-founder Svetlana Zadedyurina adds: “What began as an idea born in the waters of Croatia has grown into a new tradition here in Portugal – one that values friendship over figures, experience over ego.”
Registrations remain open until 31 July, and interest is rapidly growing. Those eager to join are encouraged to secure their place now.
