In a statement to Lusa at 7:20 a.m., operations officer at the National Command, Pedro Araújo, said that the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) has the "expectation of being able to declare these four fires under control" today.

By that time, there were "four significant incidents": in Vila Real (where the fire was being fought by 332 firefighters, supported by 111 vehicles, at 7:20 AM), Celorico de Basto (302 firefighters and 105 vehicles), Fafe (64 firefighters and 21 vehicles), and Arcos de Valdevez (42 firefighters and 11 vehicles).

According to Pedro Araújo, starting at 8:30 AM, firefighting will be reinforced with aerial resources.

The Vila Real fire started at 11:45 PM on Saturday in the Serra do Alvão, in the Sirarelhos area, and then spread to Gontães, São Miguel da Pena, and Vila Cova, where, after approaching the village during Sunday morning, it reignited near a house late in the afternoon.

The Celorico de Basto fire started in Lourido, in the parish of Arnoia, late Saturday afternoon.

The Fafe fire started at 3:45 a.m. in São Gens, and the Arcos de Valdevez fire at 8:15 p.m. on Sunday in Rio Frio.

The official said that firefighting efforts against these fires, "particularly those in Vila Real and Celorico de Basto, received firefighter reinforcements overnight, and heavy machinery operations are also planned—crawler machines—to help control the fire."

There are no reports of casualties in these fires. However, there was "a more delicate situation" in the Vila Real fire, "which required the evacuation of a home in Aldeia de Pena and also the defense of buildings in the village of Sirarelhos, also in Vila Real."

Pedro Araújo said that "the fires were indeed very close to homes," but "the strategy defined by the command post allowed us to avoid significant damage, particularly to the housing stock in these villages, which saw the fire come very close."
