A brakeman at Santo Amaro Station, André Marques, was working at the Glória Elevator when the accident occurred.

In the post on social media, Carris highlights André Marques' loyalty and dedication, as well as his courage and professionalism, having served the company for 15 years.

"He performed his duties with excellence, having been an outstanding representative of Carris throughout the city's history, contributing significantly to the excellence of the service we provide daily to our customers and to Lisbon," the company stated.

Lamenting the brakeman's "tragic end," Carris remembered him as a "dedicated, kind, smiling professional, always willing to contribute to the greater good," expressing condolences to his family and friends.

The Glória elevator in Lisbon derailed this Wednesday at 6:04 p.m. on Calçada da Glória, causing at least 17 deaths and 21 injuries.

According to Civil Protection, of the 38 people affected by the accident, 15 died on Wednesday and 23 were transported or transported themselves to hospitals, two of whom died overnight.

The government declared a day of national mourning this Thursday, and the Lisbon City Council decided to adopt three days of municipal mourning.
