In a statement, the Lezíria Local Health Unit (ULS Lezíria) informed that the investment plan for the period 2025-2030, financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) and the Alentejo 2030 program, was presented to the unit's professionals on the 20th and includes structural interventions, such as the creation of new units, the requalification of services, the acquisition of equipment, and the strengthening of digitalization and sustainability.

At the Santarém Hospital, the investment is around €16 million and foresees the creation of the Psychiatry and Mental Health Outpatient Unit, the remodelling of the Psychiatry inpatient ward and four services (Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Surgery, Orthopaedics and Medicine), as well as the installation of an Intermediate Care Unit for Internal Medicine.

Also planned is the "complete replacement of the water network and the main low-voltage switchboard," as well as the "construction of a base for the Emergency and Resuscitation Medical Vehicle (VMER)."

The investment plan also includes the acquisition of diagnostic and treatment equipment, such as mammographs, CT scanners, ultrasound machines, electric beds, ventilators, monitors, and automatic medication dispensers.

The Lezíria Health Unit also states that it will focus on sustainability and digital innovation through the acquisition of 100% electric vehicles and the "implementation of IT solutions for epidemiological surveillance and management of medical devices".

In primary healthcare, an investment of €2.5 million is planned, which will allow the creation of "two Integrated Diagnostic Centres", "a Movement and Rehabilitation Office", "six dental offices (and the renovation of two more)", in addition to the acquisition of a mobile screening unit and vehicles for the Integrated Community Care Teams (ECCI).

The statement indicates that an additional €13.5 million in funding is planned through the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), destined for municipalities to create and upgrade primary healthcare infrastructure currently under municipal management.

The Lezíria Local Health Unit (ULS Lezíria) also foresees a strategic investment of €63 million by 2030, which includes the construction of a new hospital building for outpatient surgery, intensive care, and sterilisation; the creation of a new floor for the Oncology Day Hospital; the upgrading of various services; and improvements in energy efficiency.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors, Pedro Marques, quoted in the statement, affirmed that these investments "will allow for the creation of more qualified spaces and provide the ULS Lezíria with the necessary conditions to better meet the needs of the population."
