FNAC is being accused by the consumer protection association Citizen's Voice of practicing "false promotions" during the Black Friday period, and the lawsuit, filed in the Central Civil Court of Lisbon, is based on a specific example, according to CNN Portugal.

The president of Citizen’s Voice, Otávio Viana, explains what is at stake: "We obtained evidence that, during the Black Friday period, FNAC offered a promotion for a camera that, in reality, cost €10.99 more than the original price."

In the class action lawsuit against FNAC, which CNN Portugal had access to, the organization says that the company has "systematically announced and publicised false discounts in its stores for a wide variety of products."

"Between September 1, 2025, and November 19, 2025, the company advertised and sold the camera for €89.00. However, on November 20, 2025, as part of the FNAC BACK FRIDAY 2025 campaign, it raised the selling price to €99.99 and began presenting it as a promotional price."

In an interview with the same channel, Otávio Viana said that the action aims to "show that companies, in this case FNAC, do not act honestly towards consumers during periods of large discount announcements like Black Friday, a period in which it is statistically proven that more consumers are buying products in their stores."

"And this phenomenon of inflating prices to simulate a larger discount is not exclusive to this product; there are many more," he concludes.

Some stores are selling products that were "cheaper" a month ago.

DECO PROteste had already reported that some stores are advertising "supposed discounts" on products that were cheaper a month ago than they are now, at a time when Black Friday is approaching.

"During the Black Friday period, DECO PROteste visited four online stores and analysed the prices of some products on sale. Despite good shopping opportunities, the stores continue to offer products with supposed discounts that were cheaper less than a month ago," reads the consumer protection organization's website.

DECO PROteste reminds consumers that "Black Friday kicks off the Christmas shopping season with discount campaigns that start earlier and earlier."

"Even though campaigns promise unbeatable promotions in physical and online stores, a survey by DECO PROteste shows that not all advertised price reductions are good opportunities. On November 3rd and 4th, the consumer protection organization analysed the start of Black Friday campaigns at some online stores. And, as in previous years, it found several discounts that circumvent the promotions law".
