“Fitas do Devir” was a contemporary art exhibition by Teresa Pereira at Arquipélago, the arts centre in Ribeira Grande, São Miguel. It ran from 14 March to 7 June 2026 and formed part of the cultural programme around PDL26, the Portuguese Capital of Culture in the Azores.
The exhibition used coloured tape, applied directly to the walls, to create an abstract geometric composition that interacts with the gallery's architecture. Rather than hanging on the wall like a traditional painting, the work spreads through the space and changes how visitors read the room, turning the building itself into part of the artwork.
Visitors could experience the exhibition as the artist was creating it, accompanying the process of cutting, painting, and applying the tape in real time. It was a simple but striking example of how contemporary art can change the way a place feels.
Did you visit “Fitas do Devir”? How is it to visit an exhibition in such a magical space as the Açores?
