Hollywood star leaves €200 tip at restaurant in Portugal

Pedro Pascal was on vacation in Portugal and dined with a group of 12 family members and friends.

The actor, known for participating in hit series such as The Last of Us and The Mandalorian, dined at Pizza na Praia in Aldeia do Meco on 7 August.

Pedro Pascal spent a few days on vacation in the region and dined at the pizzeria located in Meco, arriving at the restaurant at 7pm and staying for about three hours, according to reports from the restaurant staff. The actor's friendliness was also highlighted.

The group reportedly ordered almost one pizza of each variety available, in addition to several pasta dishes. To accompany the meal, Pedro Pascal and his travel companions reportedly ordered beers, gins, and various cocktails.

As mentioned earlier, the restaurant staff highlighted the actor's friendliness. In addition to being allowed to take photos with the crew, the actor reportedly left a €200 tip for them.

This is pretty normal, maybe even low. If that was 20%, a standard tip for good service in the US, the bill would have been 1,000 Euros. 12 people were dining on a 1,000 Europe bill would 83 Euros per person, all in. Wine/alcohol, starters, entrees, desserts, etc.

Totally normal for American restaurants, and admittedly, not normal here in Portugal.

Firstly this is Portugal not America.
Secondly tipping is obscene,you have paid to eat in a restaurant and in most cases the tip does not end up with the person that served you.

I very much like Pedro Pascal, but tipping by tourists sets a bad precedent, especially for the Portuguese who frown upon tipping. It becomes an expectation that many Portuguese cannot afford.

Last time I looked Meco is not in the Algarve.
Tipping is an appreciation of the service provided.
Certainly not obscene.
Your attitude maybe but not tipping.
Leave your tips in cash, they end up with the server and staff.

Note that USA restaurant servers/waiters do not have earn wages or salaries! By far and at large they are just compensated by tips (gorgetas)! That's the sad truth! So, don't compare apples and oranges! They are not entitled to social and health services like in the EU or Russia!

I don't know this actor and don't care. But what's wrong with leaving a tip? It may not be the custom in Europe but it is custom in America? So be a little "inclusive" Portuguese people. Funny how suddenly the people mouthing "inclusivity" want to exclude. For those who mistakenly think that American waiters are horribly impoverished, let me assure you that they do quite well and I would wager earn more than the vaunted salaries of European waiters. Plus, there is no tax on tips in the US and NO! the owners do not get the tip money. As for healthcare, let it be known that we do indeed have universal healthcare in America. It's called Medicaid, for those who truly need it and it's as "free" as European healthcare, better even since it's delivered by private health firms rather than the nightmare of incompetent government bureaucrats. For the rest of Americans, the vast majority, we enjoy free market healthcare with no waiting issues or being placed on a timetable months down the road. So come to America all you America-haters and experience what real freedom feels like rather than the suffocation of your nursery society.
