The chick is a Cape Penguin and was born in May; it can already be seen in the zoo’s enclosures.
The space for the species is set to be expanded in 2024, a year in which the species’ conservation status is due to change to ‘Critically Endangered’, highlighting the urgency of implementing measures to halt the threat of extinction. In this context, Lisbon Zoo has joined SANCCOB’s Chick Bolstering Project, becoming one of the institutions promoting the protection of the species.
Lisbon Zoo also offers visitors the chance to see three new Persian leopard cubs, a species that is also at risk of extinction.
