Data from the Portuguese Association of Insurers (APS) also indicates that the sector's revenue grew by 10.3% in the first half of the year, exceeding €1 billion.

Portuguese people who already have health insurance pay, on average, around €39 per month for their clinical care coverage, according to APS data.

Despite a significant increase in overall revenue, the number of clients rose by only 2.6%. This can be explained by higher overall policy prices in the market, driven by the value of new contracts and price updates to existing contracts.

Group insurance led the way in new client sign-ups, totalling more than 70,900 people, or 3.5% more than the previous year. The APS reveals that approximately 2.07 million insured individuals have been added. Regarding individual insurance policies, the increase was 1.5%, or 28,000 more people, totalling 1.85 million beneficiaries.

As for the use of health services, the APS reveals that approximately 1.7 million people activated their insurance during the first six months of the year. Consequently, private healthcare use increased, as did the compensation paid by insurers, which reached €519.2 million, up 7.4% from the same period last year.
