*Under the Shade of a Tree I Sat and Wept* pays tribute to the human spirit’s resilience in the face of horror and to the courageous quest for forgiveness in the wake of bloodshed. Through archive material and recently collected testimonies, artists from South Africa and Europe reflect on the lessons offered by the 1990 Kosovo Blood Feuds Reconciliation Campaign and the 1995 South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Through humour and a poignant performance, the exceptional cast of artists takes you to the heart of a commission, mirroring the pain the victims felt when confronting those who committed atrocities, whilst exposing how systems of violence destroy generations.
