Dublin-based medical product delivery will be offered by Wing, a drone delivery service run by Alphabet, the parent company of Google.

Apian, a UK-based healthcare and logistics startup that links healthcare providers with drone operators and services, has teamed with the business. Deliveries of pharmaceutical goods, lab samples, medical equipment, and supplies will be made as part of the programme from suppliers to providers including hospitals and pharmacies.

According to Shannon Nash, Chief Financial Officer of Wing, “There is a place where the drone will live.”

“Then it will travel back and forth from that location to the provider. We're still ironing out the specifics of those places but think of it as business-to-business shipping in terms of where the drone will travel to, pick up from, drop off at, and return from.”

The business is keeping quiet about which partners have already signed up for the service and the particular regions of south Dublin where it will operate.

The range, as stated by Ms. Nash, is around 20 km from some of the providers' locations or the locations of the drones.

The business has not yet disclosed any financial information on the service.
