“Google.org is funding INCO and Chance with $1 million to provide advanced AI skills and personalized career guidance to 7,000 university students in Portugal,” stated a post on the Google Portugal blog.

INCO and Chance will collaborate with local universities, including the Polytechnic Institute of Santarém (IPSantarém) and the Polytechnic Institute of Tomar, to offer this training and prepare students for careers in sectors transformed by AI, the company added.

"We will continue to invest in local infrastructure so that new productions, creations, and innovations are not subject to any technological limitations," guarantees Google, which in 2022 inaugurated the Equiano submarine cable, "which strengthens connectivity between Portugal and Africa, and, the following year, announced another cable, Nuvem, which is expected to be completed in 2026 and connects Portugal to the US, including the Azores."

This year, the technology company unveiled Sol, a new transatlantic submarine cable that will link Spain to the U.S., with connections through Bermuda and the Azores.

The company also highlights that AI presents Portugal with a unique opportunity for growth and competitiveness, according to the blog post.

"Preparing people, businesses, and the public sector is a process that requires close collaboration between the government and the private sector, enabling the materialisation of the knowledge and tools necessary for this transformation," it concludes.
